Vanessa Gonzalez

As the daughter of military parents, Vanessa grew up in Japan and Jacksonville, NC. She attended the University of North Carolina at Pembroke for her undergraduate studies, where she graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in both Political Science and Spanish in 2007. She went on to attend The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law, where she obtained her Juris Doctor in 2011. After practicing as an Associate, then Supervising Attorney for years with larger immigration firms, she opened her own practice in Wilmington in 2014, where she is very active in her local community through activism, outreach and volunteer work. She has served on several nonprofit boards in her region and statewide. She taught a course on Immigration Law and Policy at UNCW’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, and often presents before colleges, organizations and other groups on immigration law. Outside of the courtroom, you might find Vanessa at a local protest, or out having her favorite pizza with her son.
Como hija de padres militares, Vanessa creció en Japón y Jacksonville, NC. Ella asistió a UNC Pembroke para sus estudios de pregrado y se graduó con el honor summa cum laude con su Bachillerato en ambos ciencia política y español. Luego, ella asistió a UNC Chapel Hill School of Law, donde obtuvo su Juris Doctor. Después de trabajar como abogada al nivel de abogada asociada y supervisora, estableció su propio bufete en el 2014 en Wilmington, donde está muy activa en su comunidad por su activismo y su trabajo voluntario. Monserrat is a dreamer from Tamaulipas, Mexico. Being born and raised in a border state prepared her to understand how difficult it is for many to be on the other side of the line. When she was a child, she often crossed that bridge that divides the city of Matamoros, Tamps and Brownsville, TX. When she was 11 years old, her family immigrated to the United States looking for a better life. Monserrat has a pharmacy technician license and a medical interpreter license, as well as experience in criminal and immigration law. She was also listed on the AILA site as one of the recommended interpreters for immigration case interviews at USCIS, Durham. She plans to continue studying, but more importantly, to continue helping more people achieve their American dream.
Monserrat es una soñadora de Tamaulipas, México. Haber nacido y crecido en un estado fronterizo la preparó para comprender lo difícil que es para muchos estar del otro lado de la línea. Cuando era niña, a menudo cruzaba ese puente que divide la ciudad de Matamoros, Tamps y Brownsville, TX. Cuando tenía 11 años, su familia emigró a los Estados Unidos en busca de una vida mejor. Monserrat tiene licencia de técnica farmacéutica y licencia de intérprete médico, así como experiencia en derecho penal y de inmigración.
